Mild Vaccination Reactions:

Mild reactions include fever, sluggishness, and loss of appetite.

These symptoms usually resolve without treatment.

Patients are sometimes sore at the injection sites, which are given on the shoulders and back legs.

Moderate Vaccine Reactions:

some pets may develop a reaction of the skin marked by hives or wheals

and rapid swelling and redness of the lips, around the eyes, and in the neck region.

It rarely progresses to anaphylaxis, which is considered life-threatening.

If your pet experiences any of these symptoms,

you should return to a veterinarian for medical treatment.

Severe Vaccine Reactions:

The most severe reaction is anaphylaxis. Symptoms usually include sudden onset of vomiting, diarrhea, staggering, and breathing difficulty. It is very important that you bring your pet into the veterinarian or the emergency clinic as soon as these symptoms are noted in your pet.

Please note that the Rabies Vaccine and the Rattlesnake (Crotalus Attrox) Vaccine can cause a small hard lump to develop at the injection site. This vaccine is given in the right front shoulder.  The lump can remain for three to six weeks. Hot packing the area three times daily will speed resolution.
